Application Engineer

The Application Engineer plays a criticalrole in preparing accurate, competitive, and technically compliant proposalsfor medium-voltage power distribution and switchgear projects.

This position requires strong technical understanding of electrical systems,construction methods, and industry standards, alongside close collaborationwith sales, project management, engineering, product, and supply chain teams.

• Prepare detailed cost estimates usingestimating software based on customer specifications and drawings.
• Review bid documentation, including timelines, technical specifications, anddrawings, to fully define scope of work.
• Research, source, and negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors toensure competitive costing.
• Generate accurate bills of materials from electrical schematics, wiringdiagrams, and layouts.
• Draft professional customer proposals including pricing, bills of materials,and delivery schedules.
• Assess financial, technical, and operational risks associated with eachproject.
• Identify production and manufacturing factors that may influence project costor delivery.
• Present completed estimates to management and key internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with sales teams and customers to clarify scope, assumptions, andtechnical requirements.
• Maintain accurate quotation and opportunity data within CRM and ERP systems.
• Complete customer-specific bid forms and supporting documentation asrequired.
• Adhere to internal best practice relating to quality, safety, andcommunication.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 8+ years’ experience as an application engineer or senior estimator within medium-voltage switchgear environments.
• Strong analytical capability, with proficiency in spreadsheet and database tools.
• Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Experience managing quotations and opportunities within ERP systems.
• Working knowledge of relevant standards and codes, including ANSI, NEC, UL, and IBC.
• Strong customer-focused mindset with excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills.
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Ability to meet role-related physical, background, and compliance requirements.
• Alignment with organisational values and professional standards.

Prior experience as an application engineeror senior estimator within a comparable power distribution or switchgearmanufacturing environment.
