Role:

The R&D Engineer is a senior-level role responsible for leading mechanical design and new product development activities across power distribution products.

Based in Houston, this position combines hands-on technical design with cross-functional collaboration, mentorship of junior engineers, and direct involvement in testing, cost optimisation, and product innovation.

Requirements & Essential Functions:

  • Lead mechanical design and new product development initiatives for power distribution and control panel products.
  • Create complex mechanical assemblies, detailed drawings, and comprehensive bills of materials.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, sourcing, and testing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
  • Coordinate and support product testing and validation activities.
  • Identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers within the R&D function.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in switchgear or switchboard design environments.
  • Strong expertise in mechanical design, including sheet metal fabrication.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards, including ANSI, ASME, NEC, and UL.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and SolidWorks.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Authorisation to work in the United States without sponsorship.
