Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution & Switchgear

Our client operates within the industrial power and electrical engineering sector, designing and manufacturing medium-voltage power distribution and switchgear solutions for demanding industrial environments.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will focus on the design and development of medium-voltage power distribution and switchgear products within a manufacturing environment.

This role is well suited to an experienced engineer with strong technical design capability, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and project teams.

• Develop and review electrical design packages including single-line and three-line diagrams, front elevations, and control schematics.
• Translate customer requirements and sales documentation into accurate electrical drawings and complete bills of materials.
• Design protection and control schemes and support engineering calculations, including PT/CPT loading and voltage drop analysis.
• Ensure all electrical designs meet project specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and project management teams to ensure designs are complete and manufacturable.
• Participate in design reviews and provide engineering support during initial production builds.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues identified during manufacturing or testing phases.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to peer design reviews.
• Maintain compliance with relevant standards, including ANSI, NEC, and UL, supporting certification activities where required.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in electrical design, ideally within medium-voltage switchgear or power distribution products.
• Strong knowledge of internal wiring, protection schemes, and standard switchgear design practices.
• Proven ability to create and interpret electrical schematics, single-line and three-line diagrams, and layout drawings.
• Experience converting customer inputs into detailed engineering documentation and drawings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools is advantageous.
• Working knowledge of applicable standards, including ANSI, NEC, and UL.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

• Hands-on experience with assembly, testing, or commissioning of switchgear systems.
• Background within a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment.
• Experience supporting field service activities or troubleshooting installed systems.
• Understanding of basic mechanical design principles as they relate to integrated electrical assemblies.
